The day of departure is approaching. It's crazy to think that we'll
be boarding a plane to Alaska this Friday. We've spent the last couple
weeks cleaning up from the school year and prepping for the trip.
It's been nice to have some time to relax and get in shape.
We've
been biking, hiking, and determining answers to last minute questions
such as, "What are we supposed to do if a Grizzly Bear wakes us up
scratching at our tent?" "What exactly is the weather like in Deadhorse
right now?" (Yes- it's predicted to possibly snow tomorrow) and "How
exactly was all this stuff supposed to fit in my bags and not rupture
the back tire of my bike?"
Current top 3 goals for Alaska:
1) See a Great Gray Owl
2) Survive any Grizzly/Polar Bear encounters
3) Don't become frozen to our bikes
Thanks
to all of you who have already expressed interest in following our
travels. We will update our blog as much as cell service and internet
ability allow. Even if we can't post, we will faithfully track our
progress with the spot GPS you can see on our map page.
P.S.
If you have any recommendations for books to read about Alaska or the
Canadian far north, please let us know! We are always looking for ways
to learn more about the areas we'll be biking through.
